San Fruttuoso Abbey and Bay
The abbey of San Fruttuoso stands at the water's edge in a bay in the municipality of Camogli, between green slopes. There is no road and no parking for the abbey. You reach it on foot along the coast or by boat.
The church goes back to the 8th century, and the abbey grew in the Middle Ages. A tower from the 16th century stands in front of it. The Italian heritage trust FAI has owned the abbey since a donation in 1983. Check the current entry rules before you go.

The bay and the water
Rules for swimming and boats.
San Fruttuoso lies inside the marine reserve. The bay is where the bronze Christ of the Abyss stands under the water, and diving and swimming follow the reserve zones. Anchoring and underwater activity are not allowed at the mooring fields, which are closed for the season in 2026. Read the rules on the Christ of the Abyss page before you plan a swim.
Public access to the village and entry to the abbey are separate things. You can reach the bay without a ticket, but the abbey needs one.
